Swiss guitarist, composer and songwriter Joe Colombo has made a name for himself on the blues and rock music scene, with performances all over Europe and the United States. Combined with his musical sensitivity and talent, his slide technique and the use of special electrified Dobro® guitars have become a stylistic trademark, giving a unique and personal sound, ranging from bluesrock to the more acoustic tones of Delta-blues.
Joe began playing seriously at the age of 12, listening to Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Winter records. His slide technique draws its inspiration from Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Son House and Bukka White.
His debut album, Natural Born Slider, released in 2002, is entirely dedicated to the slide guitar and is almost wholly instrumental. Well received by critics, it led to his increasing popularity, especially in Switzerland and Italy.
Buscadero Magazine’s Readers’ Poll Ranking for 2002 named him a revelation performer and one of the best guitarists of the year.
In 2003 and 2004, together with performers such as Robben Ford, Steve Lukather, Larry Coryell and Hiram Bullock, Joe Colombo took part in the making of two tribute albums to Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Crossing A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix and Gypsy Blood: A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix Vol. 2, both of which were released and distributed internationally.
From 2005 he lived abroad for a few years, working mostly in the United States, where he began to perform with the American singer Terry Evans, Ry Cooder’s and Eric Clapton’s vocalist.
He got to Los Angeles in time to partecipate in Terry Evans’ record Fire in the Feeling.
They then went on several tours together, chalking up more than 200 concerts across the United States and all over Europe, from Spain and France to Holland, Denmark and Germany, as well as Austria and Hungary.
In 2010 Joe recorded a new album in Switzerland. With Rocco Lombardi on drums, Gian Andrea Costa on bass and Franco Campanella as leadvocalist, Deltachrome was more than a record. It was a Group and a Project.
Deltachrome had the ambitious aim of bringing the sound of the slideguitar to the very borderline between blues, rock and the hardest and purest Southern-rock.
With the Deltachrome combo, Joe toured Switzerland, Italy and Eastern Europe, where their experience in Poland produced a special issue in CD and DVD that came out in the summer of 2011, Live at Satyrblues 2010.
Touring again from Slovenia to Sweden with Terry Evans, Joe has been rediscovering the electric guitar, looking to new sounds and new albums.
